Unfortunately the sun doesn't set over Angkor Wat, it sets on the other side, but you do get the beautiful reflection of the burnt orange sun in the lake. I can vouch that the view is no less beautiful from the pond on the right-hand side. In addition, as of November 2016, one of the towers on the left was under scaffolding. If you’re taking photos, it’s easier to hide it using the trees on that side. You should have found all this out the day before, anyway. At Angkor Wat, this can be a tough question as it depends on how you choose to get around and how many of the hundreds of temples you want to see. It is possible to see quite a lot of the Angkor complex in a single day, including the best known highlights. But two days is even better as you can vary how you get around, venture to further out temples, or take things easy. Unless you plan on seeing some of Siem Reap’s other nearby attractions like Tonle Sap lake or ticking off every single temple then three days is probably not necessary.. Even in the “coolest” months, the temperatures are regularly in the eighties and nineties degrees Fahrenheit. And that’s why when my hotel said my tuk-tuk driver would pick me up at 4:30 am, I nodded in painful acknowledgment that this was all voluntary on my part.I have not yet been to Angkor wat so this post is great knowledge for me. At least now I know I should aim for sunrise in Angkor wat, not sure I will do it with tuk tuk. I didnt know we can get ticket one day earlier for the following day visit. Rather than irritating me, I found the crowds amusing. However, a lot of the joy of getting up to photograph and watch a sunrise are about finding a moment of tranquility and peace. If that’s what you’re looking for, then I suggest finding an alternative spot for sunrise at Angkor.Technically, one should remove one’s shoes before going into different parts of Angkor Wat, but I do not remember seeing anyone take their shoes off. If you are asked to, take your shoes with you since there are many doors and paths, and you may end up exiting from a different place than you entered.

Even at seven in the morning, the day was already getting hot. My guesthouse had been really kind and packed me a breakfast, which I’d eaten on the way at 4:30. But I was ready for a second breakfast by the time I spotted the cool and truly empty cafe. It was heaven getting some solitude and fresh breakfast after being in the crowds. I didn’t dawdle there too long because I obviously wanted to get to the next temple, but I’m glad I stopped to eat, use the (very clean) restroom, and browse their local crafts before joining back up with the rest of the tourists.Recommendation: If you want to visit Angkor Wat on a tour instead of doing it on your own, we can highly recommend this full-day sunrise tour. It’s great value for money, the tour guides are super knowledgeable and friendly, and you get to see all of the best temples in Angkor Wat.. While there is a swimming pool and on-site bar and restaurant, the beautiful and spacious rooms, as well as the staff and breakfast really make the stay here a great one. Upon arriving, you’ll first need to trek through quite a bit of jungle just to reach the outer moat of this small temple which was once a monastery and university. It’s easy to see how the temple could have been lost over the centuries as you venture deeper into the jungle.Outside of those months, you may have to deal with the heat, monsoon rains, or both. Angkor is at its hottest from April to June and sightseeing in the early afternoon can be draining, especially by bicycle. The heavy rains from May through October shift from sudden downpours to more constant rain as the months go on, which is also not the best conditions for sightseeing, especially on minor dirt roads. Coming out of peak season has its advantages though, from fewer tourists at the temples to more affordable room rates in Siem Reap.

The driver can take you from one temple to the next and wait around while you go see the temples. What’s more, you have the freedom to customize your visit to suit you as you go along. Sightseeing with a tuk tuk offers a great balance between cost and convenience, and hiring one for the day should cost around $15-20 depending on your negotiation skills. Calculate local times for sunrises, sunsets, meridian passing, Sun distance, altitude and twilight, dusk and Sunrise, Sunset, dusk, dawn and twilight, Sun distance, day length, altitude, and much more.. The Tuk Tuk driver will wait for you to see what you want to see. Typically they will be the same one that drives you through the park for the day from Temple to Temple (they’re VERY far apart). Always make sure you discuss where they should pick you up and how long you anticipate being gone for.

Showing up at even a respectable 9 am is going to push a lot of your day to the afternoon when it’s way too hot to enjoy yourself. If you’re doing two or three days, you (probably) won’t want to go to sunrise every single day, but you’ll still want to be there near the beginning of the morning so that you can have the most enjoyable day possible. It's the perfect time frame to see the most important temples I remember the first time I visited Angkor Wat. It was in 2006 and I knew absolutely nothing about the.. We did both sunrise and sunset -- sunrise at Angkor Wat and sunset at Pre Rup. If I had to choose one or the other I'd go with the Angkor Wat experience but frankly neither was extraordinary For me, the answer was yes. I knew what to expect beforehand (crowds!), which meant I could keep my expectations in check. I got lucky and was there on a day with a beautiful sunrise. And I also wanted to see the place more for its history and architecture than just for a sunrise photo. If I’d left with only regular photographs from the day, I would have been just as happy. (You might also like: The Lost History of Angkor).
There’s really no other place to start your day than at the temple of Angkor Wat itself. Arriving before sunrise, you’ll want to head for the reflecting ponds that lie west of the temple. Ideally you want to be at the northwestern edge of the reflecting pond so that you get the ideal vantage point to watch the sun slowly creep over the temple. This seems obvious but I cannot overstate it. The sky is the most important part of sunrise at Angkor Wat. Trust me, you don’t want to drag yourself out of bed to watch dark grey skies turn light grey, or worse, sit through a thunderstorm inside a stuffy tuk-tuk. Save the effort for a clear or partly cloudy time between 4 and 7 a.m.; there are plenty of apps that have hour-by-hour forecasts.

Like Ta Prohm, you’ll find the occasional tree sprouting from the ruins, although the two-storey building still standing is something else entirely. You can change the suns positions for sunrise, selected time and sunset see.
