By now the A400M programme was well advanced. The Atlas was always earmarked to replace the Hercules and although its tactical capability is likely to have expanded dramatically by 2022, the C-130J clearly had an important tactical role to play until the A400M was fully established. The 2015 Strategic Defence and Security Review reflected this thinking, with the announcement that 14 Hercules C4s will remain in service until 2030, with funding allocated not only for their operations, but also for upgrading and life extension.Tech. The flexible design of the Hercules enables it to be configured for many different missions, allowing one aircraft to perform the role of many. Much of the special mission equipment added to the Hercules is removable, allowing the aircraft to return to its cargo delivery role if desired. Additionally, the C-130 can be rapidly reconfigured for the various types of cargo such as palletized equipment, floor-loaded material, airdrop platforms, container delivery system bundles, vehicles and personnel or aeromedical evacuation. Meanwhile, in 1978 a conversion programme had begun to produce 30 Hercules C.Mk 3 aircraft by stretching the fuselage of the C1 to achieve a dramatic increase in cabin capacity. Lockheed produced the initial C3, flying it for the first time on December 3, 1979, but Marshall produced the remainder. Indeed, the Cambridge-based company has been instrumental in the Hercules programme since its inception, the first RAF Hercules having been delivered direct to Marshall, which subsequently performed all the major fleet conversion work and continues to support the C-130J. The M102 105mm Cannon was derived from the Army field artillery M1A1 howitzer and was modified to be fired from the left rear side door of the AC-130 gunship aircraft. To accomodate this cannon, one of the side-firing 40mm guns was removed from the aircraft and replaced by the radome that formerly had been installed in the door cavity. That change provided enough space for the 105mm gun to be mounted in the doorway in place of the radome. The gun was used extensively beginning with the Vietnam War. Source fas.org Quadriturbina da trasporto, idoneo anche a missioni di aviolancio di paracadutisti e materiali, il C-130J Hercules II è in servizio dal 2000 nella versione standard e allungata (C-130J-30) The first production C-130A Hercules entered service in December 1956 and Lockheed went on to create a bewildering array of variants and subvariants for the US and foreign militaries, and civilian market. After the Armstrong Whitworth AW681 vertical take-off transport had been abandoned on the drawing board, the RAF found itself needing to replace its piston-engined Blackburn Beverley and Handley Page Hastings transports, while augmenting the Armstrong Whitworth Argosy turboprop. Sixty-six Hercules were therefore ordered, essentially to C-130H standard, but designated C-130K for export to the UK. While it has continued to upgrade through modification, the Air Force budgeted to resume fleet modernization through acquisition of the C-130J. The C-130J had the familiar silhouette, but was in largely a brand new airplane with significantly improved performance. The C-130J by 2007 was declared to be approximately 70 percent new compared to existing versions. Compared to the earlier production C-130E, maximum speed was up 21% and climb time down 50%. Cruising altitude was 40% higher and range 40% longer. With new engines and props, the J could reach 28,000 feet in just 14 minutes. For complicated low altitude maneuvers, new avionics and dual head up displays made it easier and safer to operate. It also offered reduced manpower requirements, lower operating costs, support costs, and projected life-cycle costs. The new model featured a two-crew-member flight system, 6,000 shp Allison AE2100D3 engines with all-composite Dowty R391 propellers, digital avionics and mission computers, and improved reliability and maintainability. amerikalılar c-130'un uçak gemilerinde de kullanılıp kullanılamayacağını görmek istemişler. uçak kalkmış gerçekten, ama risk çok büyük olduğundan, bu seçenekten vazgeçilmiş
